Airborne Allergies Assessment & Management

Assessing and managing airborne allergies involves the identification, evaluation, and treatment of allergic reactions caused by airborne substances such as pollen, dust mites, mould spores, pet dander, and certain chemicals. It aims to minimise exposure to allergens and alleviate symptoms to improve the quality of life for individuals with airborne allergies.

Skin Prick Testing (SPT) is a sensitive allergy test that is used to identify common environmental and aeroallergens. Results are available within 20 minutes, which allow you to discuss the results of the test with your doctor on the same day. SPT is usually well tolerated and can be performed on small children. The test involves introducing a very small quantity of allergen extract into the skin by way of prick device. If an allergy is present, a noticeable small local reaction will be detectable. The size of the reaction on the skin is an indicator as to how severe the allergy is. These results can be used to guide management strategies.

Once the allergens are identified, the management plan can be tailored to the individual's needs.
